Three Questions with Koen & Dad (2014-12-26)

Another week of Three Questions between Koen and I. This week is the Christmas Edition. I had no idea who he would choose between being the President of the United States or Santa Claus, but I guess I wasn’t surprised by his answer. I loved his question about going back in time. I could totally imagine myself asking and wondering about this at his age as well. I am slowly learning a few things about producing a decent video and definitely learning lessons along the way. Both videos used a three light set-up with the key light coming in from camera left. The hair light seemed fine for Koen, but was a little hot for me. I should have cranked up the ISO a bit and closed the lens down because at f2.8, Koen would come in and out of focus with his more animated answers. I also didn’t anticipate the flickering LED lights on the tree. Always fun to learn. Koen’s Interview of Me: My Interview of...
Christmas in Mapleton and Winnebago

Christmas in Mapleton and Winnebago

It has been several years since we made it down to Mapleton and Winnebago for Christmas Eve and Christmas. My sister usually flies in from Seattle a few days after the actual holiday, so we time our trip to match. However, with her trip not falling until Martin Luther King Day weekend this year, we decided to head down for some food, family, and festivities. We had a great time opening presents and hanging out at my parent’s house on Christmas Eve, spending the day with family at my Gramma and Grampa’s in Winnebago on Christmas, and making a quick stop by the Kiwanis Holiday Lights in Mankato on the way home. Always feel extra lucky and appreciative after a holiday like this one.          ...
Review of TrainerRoad Tunnabora

Review of TrainerRoad Tunnabora

Maybe if I review some workouts I will be more motivated to get on the bike? With the temptation of treats, busy holiday schedule, and long time distance to anything resembling a bike race, December is a hard time to stick with any sort of training plan. Being in pure maintenance-mode, I have enjoyed the direction and form-focus of these Sweet Spot Base workouts on TrainerRoad. However, I am truly looking forward to the start of 2015 when my brain will shift back to some sort of routine. I am starting to scratch together a plan that includes six weeks of the Sweet Spot Base II (Medium Volume) and five mornings of weights per week (3 lower and 2 upper). However, it has been a little more difficult for me put together a master training plan this year. If last season’s early crash taught me anything, it’s that all of the planning and prep in the world can be thrown out the window in an instant.   My Review of Tunnabora from...
Celebrating Christmas with Angie’s Family in Mankato

Celebrating Christmas with Angie’s Family in Mankato

I have always felt very lucky that I enjoy all of my in-laws. We don’t see each other as much as some families, but we always have a great time when we get together for Christmas. In the past we have all gotten together at my mother-in-law’s in Byron or my sister-in-law and brother-in-law’s in Kasson. However, with families growing and moving, this year we decided to choose a more centrally located spot where the kids could run around and go swimming. We settled on the Mankato City Center Hotel and it could not have worked out any better. Direct Link to Christmas Photo...
Principles of Marketing Online and Instructor Bio

Principles of Marketing Online and Instructor Bio

If I ever had any visions of being a television anchor or personality, producing these short videos have made me realize that I made the correct career choice as a teacher. Even though I speak in front of groups of students nearly every day, this experience is much different. The lack of two-way interaction and the pressure to make these perfect have led to several, I mean SEVERAL, takes. I plan to produce 20-30 mini lessons this semester, so I hope this gets easier and I get better. However, I definitely have a new respect for the “talking-heads” on television.
